FAMILIA CHOBANI CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH PROGRAM: A Proven, Community-Based Strategy to Prevent Cardiovascular Disease

“LA ADQUISICIÓN DE HÁBITOS SALUDABLES DESDE LA INFANCIA REDUCE EL RIESGO DE ENFERMEDADES CARDIOVASCULARES Y MEJORA LA CALIDAD DE VIDA EN LOS ADULTOS”

Dr. Valentín Fuster

The Familia Chobani Cardiovascular Health Program is a four-year, controlled, research-based cardiovascular health study based in Harlem and led by Dr. Valentin Fuster. Designed as a rigorous evaluation of prevention strategies in real-world community settings, the program builds on more than a decade of successful engagement in underserved New York City neighborhoods. By combining structured intervention and comparison groups, the study generates high-quality evidence on what works to improve adolescent and family cardiovascular health. The initiative directly advances your Administration’s priorities in health equity, preventive care, and youth empowerment, while leveraging existing community infrastructure to maximize public value.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in New York City, with disproportionate impact on Black and Latino New Yorkers living in low-income communities. Emerging research from Mount Sinai shows that these disparities begin much earlier in life than previously understood, underscoring the urgent need for early, sustained, and family-centered prevention strategies.
