FAMILIA CHOBANI CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH PROGRAM: The Critical Role of Reintervention in Maintaining Long Term Health Impacts
The Familia Chobani Cardiovascular Health Program (2025–2029) builds on foundations established in early childhood by re‑engaging adolescents at a pivotal stage. Because early health gains may fade without reinforcement, the program offers a targeted reintervention to strengthen motivation, reinforce healthy behaviors, and support sustained cardiovascular health.
The initiative will re-enroll adolescents who participated in the original FAMILIA Project a decade ago and recruit new participants from East and Central Harlem. Through established afterschool programs, both groups will complete a structured four‑month health curriculum, enabling comparison of first‑time participants with those receiving a “booster” intervention.
Outcomes will be assessed across multiple domains, including health mindset (motivation, self‑efficacy, health consciousness), lifestyle behaviors (diet, physical activity, sleep, screen time, smoking), and the Life’s Essential 8 Cardiovascular Health Score. A two‑year follow‑up will measure the durability of these effects and determine whether early childhood exposure enhances the impact of reintervention.
Simultaneously, adults from the original FAMILIA cohort will undergo a second vascular health assessment, allowing comparison with ultrasound data collected 10 years earlier. This rare intergenerational dataset will provide insight into how adolescent behaviors relate to long‑term cardiovascular outcomes. Chobani will support participating families by delivering healthy food packages twice a month, aligned with recommended dietary guidelines.
